LGBTQ+ Creative Club

In December, we launched the first ever Newport Out LGBTQ+ Creative Club in Newport, Rhode Island. We’re a club of LGBTQ+ community members and allies that are dedicated to expanding our awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ identities and issues through reading, creating and connecting. We meet at the Huddle, a great space at 42 Spring Street, on the third Wednesday of each month.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, February 16! (Please make sure to RSVP here)

We’re currently reading Without Shame: Learning to Be Me by Connelly Akstens.

And we have exciting news! Connelly will be joining us via Zoom for our February session! If you haven’t read the book, no worries, you are still invited to join us if you’re interested in getting involved or just checking out the creative club.

If you’d like to start reading, you can get Connelly’s book through the RI Public Library system, or a signed copy from Connelly’s website directly. We hear that Island Books in Middletown may have some copies in stock, or it can be ordered through Charter Books in Newport.

At our February meeting, we will vote on the next book to start reading. We will also connect with each other, snack, play games, and some other fun creation activities. And of course, we’ll get to hear from Connelly and discuss her book!

We hope to see you there!
